POSITION PURPOSE

Identifies, promotes, develops, implements and insures internal review and approval of Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) and repair deviation (DER Repair) opportunities with the end goal of reducing cost, improving reliability, and reduced inventory ownership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Pursues PMA and DER repair opportunities with Original Equipment Manufacturers and aftermarket sources. Negotiates cost reduction for Engineering approved parts in accordance with company and departmental goals.

  • Collaborates with and monitors suppliers in the development of new PMA parts for future purchasing opportunities and cost reduction.

  • Searches and verifies PMA Approval of suppliers via the Federal Aviation Administration Parts Manufacturer Approval websites and other validation processes.

  • Maintains a high level of knowledge of aircraft parts applications, failure modes and utilizations.

  • Collaborates with Engineering to acquire additional data for the internal PMA authorization, follows up and expedites the engineering review and approval cycle.

  • Completes and submits the Engineering Material Control Evaluation form for all candidate PMA parts and maintains a status report for all in work opportunities.

  • Negotiates long term purchase contracts to include warranty, logistics, favorable terms, pool availability, etc.

  • Identifies parts that are potential candidates for Parts Manufacturer Approval or DER Repair.

  • Maintains a quarterly update meeting for all senior management.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Aviation, Business, Purchasing, Materials Management or related field.

  • Requires 5 years of experience in airline industry, purchasing, supply chain management or related area.

  • Requires previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree (M.A./M.S.) or equivalent in Business Administration and 10 years of experience.

  • Completed Aviation Maintenance Professional training.

  • Prefer Certified in Production and Inventory Management, Certified Purchasing Manager or Institute for Supply Management Certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to research and interpret technical documents such as Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Component Maintenance Manuals, and Repair Specifications. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction. Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured. Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.
