Administers and communicates the Company’s associate benefits programs including leave of absence (LOA), workers’ Compensation (WC) and returns to work.

Responds to telephone inquiries, emails or has face-to-face interactions with associates regarding benefits, workers’ comp or leaves; assists associates by explaining options and required paperwork; refers associates to appropriate carrier if necessary.
Researches and resolves escalated benefits or leaves of absence matters. Communicates with associates regarding leaves; processes all leave denials and responds to rebuttals.
Develops and maintains benefits and/or leaves metrics, analyzes data for trends and provides recommendations for improvement. Develops and provides reports as requested.
Monitors new and evolving benefits and leaves legislation and makes compliance recommendations. Makes recommendations for process improvement to continuously improve efficiency and customer service
Assists in selecting and evaluating vendors. Develops and maintains relationships with insurance, leaves and workers’ comp carriers
Acts as a liaison with third-party administrators, vendors and internal employees. Provides customer service and advocates for the benefit participant/associates on leave or receiving workers’ comp to resolve claims, eligibility and coverage issues.
Collaborates with vendors, attorneys and adjustors to evaluate, investigate and resolve claims. Evaluates and approves settlement offers within monetary limit.
Represents the Company in workers’ compensation related hearings with system board/arbitration to include researching leave history, absence trends, etc.
Assists in the on-going development and improvement of benefits and leaves policies and procedures and that they are current with applicable laws, labor agreements, and state and federal laws.
Coordinates and assists with the organization-wide annual benefits open enrollment.
Works with internal departments (e.g., IT, recruiting, payroll, etc.) on benefits, leaves and workers’ comp related issues.
Provides associate benefits and leave history, absence trends, etc. to supervisors, managers, and employee relations, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least 5 years related health and welfare administration experience. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and at least 5 years of related experience. Experience administering benefit plans in a 1,000+ associate based company preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.
REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction. Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured. Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.
