POSITION PURPOSE

Administers and communicates the Company’s associate benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability, and the associate assistance programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responds to telephone inquiries, emails or has face-to-face interactions with associates regarding benefits; assists associates by explaining options, required paperwork or HRIS enrollment procedures; refers associates to appropriate carrier if necessary.

  • Responds to and resolves escalated benefits matters. Assists associates with claims issues. Serves as liaison between associate, insurance carrier and/or 401(k) vendors to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.

  • Develops and maintains benefits metrics, analyzes data for trends and provides recommendations for improvement. Develops and provides reports as requested.

  • Monitors new and evolving benefits legislation and makes compliance recommendations.

  • Assists in the on-going development and improvement of benefits policies and procedures and that they are current with applicable laws, labor agreements, and state and federal laws surrounding benefits.

  • Makes recommendations for process improvement to continuously improve efficiency and customer service.

  • Monitors benefit elections through queries and reports to ensure accuracy based on plan types and eligibility along with compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.

  • Provides customer service and advocates for the benefit participant to resolve claims, eligibility and coverage issues.

  • Assists in selecting and evaluating vendors.

  • Ensures feeds between HRIS and vendor are working properly.

  • Processes enrollments, terminations and status changes for all health, welfare and 401(k) programs.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with insurance carriers; reports claims or customer service issues as required. Works with carriers on transmission of eligibility feeds; identifies and corrects discrepancies.

  • Coordinates 401(k) deductions and company match with payroll. Administers retirement auto-enrollment program; ensures compliance.

  • Coordinates and assists with the organization-wide annual benefits open enrollment.

  • Works with internal departments (e.g., IT, recruiting, payroll, etc.) on benefits related issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • At least 5 years related health and welfare administration experience.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and at least 5 years of related experience.

  • Experience administering benefit plans in a 1,000+ associate based company preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

DECISION MAKING

Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction. Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured. Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.
